Day 3

So I started yesterday on the plan of painting and cleaning up
and when I was working on the front bathroom
I found that I had a wonderful idea to share.
First let me introduce you to a member of our family for the past 14 years,
Kirby.

Kirby, all 16lbs of him,  was my Son's cat but when he got married
and moved on . . . well . . . Kirby had to stay.
Mostly because he is an awesome cat but also because the apartment that the newlyweds moved into has a pet policy that they just couldn't afford besides I work from home and they are never home
And most Importantly
Kirby is MINE!!!

So I painted all the walls yesterday a bright white.   This is my vanity.  I did the tile work myself.  Maybe that will turn up in a blog too.   Hmmmm.
But what I really wanted to point out is
THE CAT BOX.
So don't see it in the first picture? Well look on :)

Yup, that is the underside of our vanity in the front bathroom.
And that is the nasty smelly cat box.
My husband ripped out the old cabinet area that was under the vanity top - fortunately the cabinet area was an add on so the top was supported independently and we didn't have to come up with a way to add any additional support.
Then he built a simple frame with 1" x 3" and then,
attached to the back vinyl lattice for easy clean up.
I painted the frame before he put on the lattice
and used a high gloss exterior paint so I could scrub it up when I needed to.
He then attached it to the wall with two hinges
and used the 'do thingy' for the latch on the other side.
So it just snaps into place.
I guess that technical terms are not my forte.  :P
It's just a push in latch.
You could use magnets or whatever.

YUCK!

But the wonderful door that Jeffery built me encloses all of that mess.
The small hole cut in the vinyl lattice work allows his Majesty in and out
without the Dog (another blog) sticking her head in for 'snacks'.

I vacuum up the mess once a week
and the box (which is electric but we don't use that capability)
has a handy box at one end to dump the crap in
and we empty the handy box every couple of days.
Is there  a smell?  Only if we forget to clean up.
And note in the first picture the plug in air freshener keeps everything smelling great.

I keep a small whisk broom (for kitty litter that makes it out and onto the floor)
and the kitty litter
and a cat poop scoop in the bottom area.

Best idea ever.
Only challenge is remembering that the door MUST stay open.

Enjoy,
Jan
